Biography
Bobby Bray is a seasoned finance professional with over 20 years of experience and a retired Naval Commanding Officer with a military career spanning more than 30 years. His finance background encompasses commercial banking, investment banking, and management consulting, with a focus on complex corporate valuations and operations for Fortune 50 financial institutions.
Bobby began his military career after graduating the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy for 11 years. In 2002, he transitioned to the U.S. Navy Reserve and served as a four-time Commanding Officer, retiring as a Navy Captain.
His military service took him around the world to over 25 countries across the Far East, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa — presenting invaluable opportunities to lead and inspire teams through a culturally-sensitive yet strategic approach. Furthermore, faced with the challenge of doing more with less in the military environment revealed his innate ability to color outside the lines and develop innovative solutions in life-threatening circumstances.
As a decorated Commanding Officer, Bobby was acknowledged for numerous achievements. Notably, he developed a comprehensive training program for pilots focused on safety procedures, which led to a remarkable 50% reduction in reported incidents. He also played a pivotal role in coalition building, leading a unit responsible for supporting NATO’s Allied Command Transformation (ACT) by training and preparing U.S. Naval personnel for service within ACT.
Bobby’s career in finance has been as broad as his time in the military. He began his business career as a vice president in commercial banking, where he exceeded first-year revenue goals by an impressive 250% and grew his portfolio by 20% within two years. He then transitioned to investment banking and consulting, delivering C-suite advisory services and completing close to 100 DCF-based corporate valuations, with an average deal size of $25 million.
At Oliver Wyman, a leading international management consulting firm, he spearheaded a transformative analytical program for a major U.S. government agency and provided strategic IT services to a leading $50 billion financial market infrastructure corporation on Wall Street. Most recently, as Senior Manager of the External Affairs division at Capital One Bank, Bobby oversaw an external regulatory portfolio for one of the ten largest Bank Holding Companies in the U.S., with assets over $470 billion.
Bobby Bray holds an MBA from the University of Florida, a Master's Degree in International Finance and Strategic Studies from Johns Hopkins University, and a graduate degree in Global Business from the University of Oxford.
